The SEAD missions seem to depend on getting painted and attacked in order to identify gun and missile emplacements, but why don't these weasel missions use airplanes with stealth features that would allow weasels to troll with high reflectivity profiles and then switch to stealth profile once their target has been identified and they need to avoid missies and AA?

Came here after watching Digital Foundry Retro Gaming of Road Rash series... growing up playing on the Genesis and this version on PC with CD audio/video catchy song and of course sport bikes... alot of movies and such inspired me to grow up and get one and finally in 2001 bought my first ZX6R ninja and later heavily modified it. I had put over 60K miles on that bike including 2 trips to Smoky Mountains and Tail of the Dragon.

I still remember when O'grady was rescued and it felt like all of America was cheering for him and the brave Marines then went in after him! I loved those Cobras!!! I was an Army brat and the last 4.4 years of my dads career were stationed at Ft. Hood Texas. Back then it was the 1st Cav and 2nd Armored Divisions stationed there. Man wed see those cobras and sometimes got to see them in action and that was a rare treat. Other times there coukd be 4 or so riding shotgun with a much larger group of helicopters, usually a bunch of Huey's with a number of those big chinook copters. Theu all together made 1 heck of an impressive noise as they approached, then over flew, then transitioned away with the sounds changing during the flight. From bone jarring wap wap wap, then smoother as they flew away. Bit Cobras are bad ass!!!

For over twenty years the U.S. Army has continued its quixotic quest for the perfect light, scout/attack helicopter, expending untold millions on the supposed, impressive, stealth RAH-66 Commanche scout attack light helicopter, only to have the U.S. Army express its dissatisfaction and 11th hour cancellation. So here we are in 2023 while the Army spends more millions of dollars researching and developing its desired Star Wars stealth light scout/attack helicopter of the future. There's already an excellent light scout/attack helicopter available in a proven design, the U.S. Marines SuperCobra. True, the original design dates back to the late 1960s. Yet in 2023 the SuperCobra shows it is far from obsolete. The U.S. Army can choose one of several options. It can continue to pour millions down the rabbit hole in search of its perfect Star Wars light helicopter. Or it can choose an existing, proven design that would likely fulfill at least 90% of the Army's specifications for the future light scout/attack helicopter. The SuperCobra doesn't have the stealth characteristics sought by the Army. No one even knows if helicopters are capable of stealth flight. The last option is for the Army to adopt the SuperCobra as an 'interim' light scout/attack helicopter while it continues its pet research and development project on the light helicopter for the next twenty years. The drawback to the Army is the funds expended on an interim helicopter instead of funneling it down the Rabbit Hole as it has been doing for over twenty years. The problem here is the growing prospect of military conflict with Red China within the next four years or so over Taiwan and over the jurisdiction of the South China Sea and the Spratley Islands. Red China successfully played the bully by virtual annexation of the entire South China Sea for the islands within the area and the supposed vast oil deposits located under the sea floor. Naturally this raise the ire of the adjoining nations of the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Taiwan plus the opposition of Japan. But no one wants to go to war against Red China. This might all come to a head very soon if Red Chinese supreme dictator Xi Xingping decides to take the warpath to secure Red China's claims over Taiwan and the South China Sea. A huge war could break out. So what will the U.S. Army do next without its highly desired future light scout/attack helicopter? It will have to rely on the Blackhawk and the Apache. The U.S. Marines will obtain Congressional funding for purchasing additional SuperCobras. That's when the U.S. Army might take a second look at the SuperCobra as a substitute light scout/attack helicopter because it is available.
